Location: Curramore, Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Queensland
Project: Steep Slope Vegetation Clearing, Forestry Mulching & Rural Property Access Restoration
Equipment: FAE RCU-75 Remote-Controlled Forestry Mulcher & Polaris Ranger
Some projects are about more than clearing vegetation. They’re about reconnecting a property with its history, restoring access to land that has become difficult to manage and helping preserve something that has been part of a family for generations.
Our recent project in Curramore, nestled in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, was one of those jobs.
With an agricultural history stretching from dairy farming to Black Angus cattle production, this family property has seen generations of hard work and changing farming practices.
But over time, dense vegetation and extremely steep hillsides had made sections of the property almost impossible to access.
For Creek 2 Coast, the challenge was clear: reopen access to the lower paddocks, improve conditions for cattle mustering and help bring overgrown sections of this historic farming property back into use.
And with some of the steepest terrain we’ve encountered, this project was certainly going to test our equipment and experience.
A Family Farm with a Rich Agricultural History
The Sunshine Coast Hinterland has a long farming history, with properties throughout Curramore and Maleny supporting generations of agricultural families.
This particular property began its life as a dairy farm before transitioning into beef cattle production, eventually becoming home to Black Angus cattle.
Over the years, the property became closely connected with a well-known local cattle farming family.
Today, the next generation has taken responsibility for maintaining the land and continuing its agricultural story.
But looking after a large rural property in the hinterland isn’t always straightforward.
As vegetation gradually takes hold, steep paddocks and access tracks can become increasingly difficult to navigate. What was once productive, accessible farmland can slowly become challenging to manage.
That’s exactly what had happened here.
The Challenge: Getting Down the Mountain
Every vegetation clearing project presents its own challenges, but Curramore was something else.
The lower paddocks were surrounded by steep hillsides and dense overgrowth, with very limited access for conventional machinery.
In some sections, reaching the bottom meant tackling an incredibly steep descent from the upper hills.
